A few weeks ago several of the sisters were concerned about one lone goose that nibbled at the grass in the back yard. Had he (she) become injured or separated from the flock? Could it join another migrating community?
That concern soon ended when the goose disappeared and returned with six, then a dozen, then 25, 50 and later 80+ hungry companions. It was amazing to watch a flock fly overhead and then circle back with graceful precison to join the party. Some left, but for a couple of weeks about 30 continued to harvest our lawn and repay us with fertilizer. We know Benedictines should be hospitable, but we will be happy when they stop visiting.. Their presence leaves us wondering: Has their migration been interrupted by global warming, or has their GPS (Goose Positioning System) broken down?
